EASTER SEALS MIDWEST ANNOUNCES NEW CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
New Tourney Reflects Statewide Focus on Services for
Developmentally Disabled

St. Louis-based Easterseals
Midwest announced today a new golf tournament fundraising event has been
scheduled for Labor Day weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks. The tourney is
the first annual Alan Frederick Schien Memorial Golf Tournament, named in honor
of ESMW board member Kent Schien’s son, Alan, who passed away on November 1st,
2016 after living a fulfilling and productive life with Muscular Dystrophy.
The tournament will be held on Sunday, September 3, at Osage
National Golf Club at the Lake of the Ozarks with a 1:00 shotgun start.
Check-in and lunch will begin at 11:00, and a BBQ dinner will be provided
after golf, along with a silent and live auction. The tourney format will
be a 4-person scramble, and prizes will be awarded to the winners during the
auction. All proceeds will go to Easterseals
Midwest, a nonprofit organization that is committed to helping individuals with
developmental disabilities---including autism---learn, live, work and
participate in communities throughout Missouri.
“We are proud to partner with Kent and the Schien family to
honor Alan, and grateful that the proceeds from this event will go to our
mission of helping individuals with developmental disabilities and their
families, said Wendy Sullivan, CEO of Easterseals
Midwest. “Alan was a special person, and while all of us at Easterseals Midwest miss him, we are so thrilled that he
will be fondly remembered at this event annually. Holding this tournament
in central Missouri at a wonderful location like Osage National also reflects
our statewide service reach. We serve individuals in every county in the
state.”
Kent Schien’s father, H. Fred Schien, was a prominent Lake
of the Ozarks real estate executive until his death in 2013. H.
Fred’s family continues to call the Lake of the Ozarks home. “Placing
Alan’s memorial fundraising event at the Lake of the Ozarks was a natural fit
for us, said Kent Schien. “We have many friends there and look forward to
seeing them at the tournament. And as an Easterseals
Midwest board member and parent of one they helped throughout his life, it is
only fitting that they benefit from the proceeds.”
